In this one hour course, the engineer will learn about the code revisions and new standards of the District Department of Transportation for the installation of sidewalks on District roads. This course explores the DDOT Sidewalk Installation Policy revisions including the changes in proposed sidewalk design and layout. The new policy impacts the site design of new commercial and residential developments, by placing a priority on the safety and comfort of pedestrians. This course assesses all facets of the policy including the petitioning process, policy exemptions, and design requirements.
After taking this course, engineers will have full awareness of the new sidewalk policy and how it impacts their new development projects. By analyzing this policy, engineers learn more about how the policy prioritizes new sidewalk developments and how the DDOT engages the public in participating. After this course, engineers working with site developments will understand how the DDOT will evaluate the project and what sidewalk design changes the DDOT now expects from these projects.
