Instructor: Juan C. Borrero, P.E.

Do you recognize where electricity comes from? To be able to say yes to this question, you need to understand the physics of matter. During this course, you?ll learn the fundamentals involving: matter, electron theory, magnetism, electromagnetism, the laws of electrical circuits, series circuits, parallel circuits, series-parallel circuits and therefore the basic electrical formulas. This nine hour course introduces the fundamental electricity and electrical circuit ideas related to electricity. Topics include calculation of current, voltage, resistance and power in series, parallel and combination circuits with direct current (DC) power sources.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe how DC voltage produced and list elements of an electric circuit.
  • Compare half-wave bridge rectifiers and full-wave bridge rectifiers.
  • Identify a schematic diagram, one-line diagram, block diagram and wiring diagram.
  • Describe resistivity and how temperature affects the resistance of materials.
  • Recall the difference between open circuit, close circuit, and short circuit.
  • Identify the primary characteristics of a series, parallel or a combination circuit.
  • Calculate the current and voltage drop in series, parallel or combination circuits.
