The purpose of this course is to familiarize the engineer with the essential principles of earthquake-resistant design for residential construction. Adequate construction is needed in order for a structure to fair well throughout and after an earthquake. This five hour course will cover the overall earthquake-resistant requirements within the International Residential Code, IRC, and necessities for foundation and floor construction. This course reviews Chapters 1-4 from ?Homebuilders Guide to Earthquake Resistant Design and Construction?, FEMA 232 ? June 2006 by the Building Seismic Safety Council for the Federal Emergency Management Agency of the Department of Homeland Security.
